Breast Reconstruction in Buffalo, NY

Dr. Tamara B. Dawli of Buffalo Plastic Surgery offers reconstructive surgery procedures for both the face, breast, and body in Western New York including Buffalo and Niagara Falls, NY.

What is Breast Reconstruction?

After a mastectomy or lumpectomy, breast reconstruction can be done to help recreate breast shape and volume, restoring the contour of your chest. During reconstruction, Dr. Dawli creates a new breast shape using an artificial implant, or alternatively, a flap of tissue from another part of your body, known as autologous reconstruction.

How Much Does Breast Reconstruction Cost?

Every patient has unique needs, and your cost for breast reconstruction will vary according to your insurance and benefits and will be discussed during your consultation.

Why Choose Breast Reconstruction?

If you have had a mastectomy or are planning on having a mastectomy, you may feel like a part of you is missing that you want to restore. This is a very natural reason to choose breast reconstruction. Breast reconstruction can be done many months or even years after a mastectomy or lumpectomy, or alternatively can be coordinated with your breast surgeon and done immediately after your mastectomy.

Who is a Candidate for Breast Reconstruction?

It’s hard to predict how you will feel in response to having a mastectomy, but you do have the option for reconstruction of your breast or breasts at Buffalo Plastic Surgery. It’s normal to feel sad, uncertain or anxious in having surgery on your breasts, which are so integral to the female form. You may be a candidate for breast reconstruction if you would like to restore your natural form.

What is the Procedure for Breast Reconstruction?

There are a variety of different breast reconstruction techniques available, and during your consultation, Dr. Dawli will discuss implant reconstruction and autologous or “flap” reconstruction. Working with you during your consultation, Dr. Dawli will develop a personalized breast reconstruction procedure, outlining the steps of the procedure and what you can expect in terms of recovery.

What is the Procedure for Nipple Reconstruction?

You may desire nipple reconstruction to complete your breast reconstruction after you have had a mastectomy. Women who have breast reconstruction very often want their new breast to include a nipple and areola. Nipple reconstruction is done as an outpatient procedure. The procedure begins with a small incision where the nipple will be made. Your skin will be formed into a nipple shape, and then small sutures will be used to secure the form. Your new nipple and surrounding areola can be tattooed about three months after surgery.
