Everything You Need To Know About Liposuction

Liposuction in Buffalo, NYLiposuction is one of the most commonly performed procedures in plastic surgery. However, this widespread awareness can lead to a lot of misconceptions and misinformation. As with any surgery, it is important to educate yourself about the procedure, which is why I’ve outlined the basics of liposuction and body contouring surgery.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes stubborn bulges or areas of fat from the body to create a smoother appearance and overall improve your shape. These areas are have often been resistant to diet and exercise—-like the double chin, bra line, love handles, back, arms, and tummy area. The majority of my patients choose liposuction because it boasts immediate results and has the flexibility to target nearly any area of the body.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for Liposuction?

Men and women who are experiencing stubborn fat are typically good candidates for liposuction. It is important that you are healthy and have no immediate plans for dramatic weight loss or weight gain. If you’re struggling to shrink or tone a part of your body, liposuction may be the solution to target that specific location. At your consultation, I can discuss areas that are of concern to you, and we can see if liposuction can help.

How is Liposuction performed?

Liposuction procedures can sometimes be performed under local anesthesia, while other times it requires general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the area. I will make sure that the process is as painless as possible. The surgery itself involves making incisions less than a centimeter in length. Cannulas are then introduced to remove the fat from the areas that you have chosen.

What is the Recovery Time from Liposuction?

The recovery time after liposuction varies from patient to patient depending on the area treated and the amount of fat that was removed during the procedure. For the first couple weeks after surgery, you may feel sore and have to refrain from engaging in strenuous physical activity. Most people return to work or school within a week. In the following weeks, you can expect swelling to go down, as you are slowly able to return to normal activities. The majority of my patients are fully recovered in approximately three months.
